Diagnostic Criteria
The criteria for NF2 include bilateral eighth cranial nerve masses seen with appropriate imaging modalities, including either CT or MR imaging. Neurofibromatosis Type 2, however, is most classically represented by bilateral eighth cranial nerve schwannomas, which occur in more than 95% of cases . Another clinical diagnostic criterion indicating NF2 is a first-degree relative with NF2 and either a unilateral eighth cranial nerve mass or two of the following: neurofibroma, meningioma, glioma, schwannoma, and juvenile posterior subcapsular lenticular opacity.
